Please note that at present we are unable to offer learndirect courses at WATCH. This has been brought about by lack of funding to support this very worthwhile project. However, we are in negotiation with other learndirect centres with the view to them using our premises as a satellite centre. Details will be posted on this site as soon as they are available.
It's a flexible way of learning. Once you've enrolled at our Learndirect centre, you can learn wherever you've got internet access: at home: at work or at a Learndirect centre. It's all explained very clearly and you work at your own pace. If you do not understand a topic, you just go back and repeat it as often as you like until you feel ready to go on.
Our courses are computer-based, but don't let that bother you! You can learn at home, at work or anywhere you can access the Internet. Our Learndirect centre staff can help you get started on your course and will provide you with access to a computer on which you can work through it.
Learndirect offers over 400 courses to choose from. Levels range from complete beginners to professional and everything in between.
The main areas are:
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) including:
• Taster courses for complete beginners - Surfdirect/First
Time Online
• European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
Can I get a
qualification?
Skills for Life
Need a maths or English qualification to get that job? If you missed out on a maths or English qualification you can get a OCR qualification at an equivalent level to GCSE.
Recognising your achievements
Qualifications are a good way to show other people what you have achieved and can really help you get on at work. Having a qualification is a good way to show others real evidence of your skills and knowledge.
You can use your Skills for Life course to help you achieve a nationally recognised Certificate in Adult Literacy or Numeracy. They measure skills at an equivalent level to other national qualifications.
The qualifications that you can get are:
• Certificate in Adult Literacy Level 1
• Certificate in Adult Literacy Level 2
• Certificate in Adult Numeracy Level 1
• Certificate in Adult Numeracy Level 2
To get a Certificate, you need to take and pass a short test. It's multiple choice, only 40 questions long and most people take it on a computer so they can answer the questions at the touch of a button. You can take the test in the relaxed atmosphere of your local accredited learndirect centre.
What's more, taking any Certificate test is FREE* to adult learners.
ECDL
The European Computer Driving Licence (or ECDL) is an internationally recognised qualification for computer users everywhere. Through it you will gain the confidence, basic skills and knowledge to use computers and a wide range of common IT software packages. What's more you don't need any prior IT knowledge or experience to do it.
Learndirect courses vary in cost. Some are free and others cost from as little as £15. You may also be entitled to financial help. Many Learndirect courses are subsidised by the government and you may be pleasantly surprised at how little courses cost.
